Hi all, The story starts two years ago. It was a beautiful summer day. I had just finished my fourth baseball game of the weekend, and instead of being exhausted, I was bitter. I’m not bothered that I went 2-12 at the plate or botched a ground ball. And it wasn’t that my team didn’t win a game all tournament. It was because I knew that would be the last time I would put on my cleats and play the game I love – Baseball.
There are the games that you should win — and there are the games you must win. Tonight’s match-up against Rutgers was the latter. However, Rutgers and their tough play at the end had the Terps on the wrong end of a 56-53 final score. The Terps cut it to one point with under a minute, and Rutgers got it back to three points to force Maryland to shoot a 3-pointer to try to tie it at the end. It was not meant to be.
The Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team comes into this with a 13-9 record and 5-6 in the Big-Ten. Tonight is a matchup with their closest geographical Big-Ten rival as Rutgers comes to College Park, Maryland for this game at the Xfinity Center.
The Terps returned their “Big Three” of fifth-year seniors Jahmir Young and Donta Scott, along with junior big man Julian Reese and added some impressive freshmen like 6’5″ guard DeShawn Harris-Smith. Young is on a lot of awards finalist lists for top players in the country, and he leads Maryland with 20.9 points per game, second best in the Big Ten and 17th nationally, followed by Julian Reese (13.1 points, 9.7 rebounds). Donta Scott rounds out the top scorers with 11.1 points per game but has increased that output to 13.5 points over the last eight games.
COLLEGE PARK, MD. — Nebraska came out of the chute today hitting five 3-pointers to start their scoring, and it looked like the sluggish start by the Maryland Terps would sink them quickly. But then Jahari Long stepped up big with his own 3-point scoring on his way to 11 points in the game, and that energized his team that went on a run and never looked back. It was a combination of aggressive defense to keep the Cornhuskers from uncontested 3-point shooting the rest of the way, and Maryland moving around the ball on offense to the open man for clear shots.
Nebraska came into College Park with a strong 15-5 record on the season, and a major upset win just 18 days ago against the No. 1 team in the country at the time, Purdue, and the Cornhuskers smoked them with a final score of 88-72. Many favored Nebraska in this game, and it started out to look like that until the freshman, Jamie Kaiser Jr., stepped up in the first half.
The Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team got back from a long road trip in the state of Illinois to arrive back in College Park, Maryland to snow and an 11-7 record and 3-4 in the Big-Ten. With that Terps’ record, it is identical to Michigan State at tip-off for this noon start on Sunday. With the students still on winter break and classes starting back up this week, we will see how many of them show up on Lefty Driesell Day since none of them were born when Driesell came to Maryland in 1969 — and it is possible that their parents were not even born yet. Additionally, Maryland will wear a signature ‘throwback’ uniform representing some of the great Terp teams from the 1970s under Driesell’s coaching leadership.
This is the 105th season of Terps basketball and expectations have been high in year two of the Kevin Willard era. The Terps returned the “Big Three” of fifth-year seniors Jahmir Young and Donta Scott, along with junior big man Julian Reese and added some impressive freshmen like 6’5″ guard DeShawn Harris-Smith. Young is on a lot of “watch lists” for top players in the country, and he continues to step up. Over the last six games, the fifth-year guard has averaged 26.5 points in those games with two 30-point games (37 at UCLA, 36 at Northwestern). He also had 28 points in the win over No. 10 Illinois.
The Maryland Terrapin football team came to Nashville, Tennessee as a strong underdog and labeled as a team that had no chance to beat the likes of an SEC team like the Auburn Tigers. With record-setting Terps’ QB, Taulia Tagovailoa, opting-out of the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, head coach Mike Locksley turned to his inexperienced backup Billy Edwards Jr. to start this bowl game that was broadcasted nationally on ABC. Edwards led the Terps to a commanding 31-13 victory over Auburn on Saturday at Nissan Stadium, plus Edwards earned the MVP Award for this bowl game. This is the first time the Terps have ever won three consecutive bowl games dating back to 2021’s Pinstripe Bowl victory, and last year’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl win over NC State.
We are in Nashville, Tennessee and a day from New Year’s Eve for the TransPerfect Music City Bowl between the Maryland Terrapins (7-5) and the Auburn Tigers (6-6) for their final game of the 2023 season. The Terrapins and the Tigers are meeting for the first time since 1983 in football.
The Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team got back to a 3-3 record with a nice win on Saturday and they will face Rider at the XFINITY Center tonight. The game will tip at 7 PM and will be streamed online through Big Ten Plus (B1G+), and of course on the radio with the Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday. The last time these teams met was back in 2015.

The Terps returned the “Big Three” of fifth-year seniors Jahmir Young and Donta Scott, along with junior big man Julian Reese and added some impressive freshmen like 6’5″ guard DeShawn Harris-Smith. The Maryland Terrapins were not expected to be beat Ohio State or Penn State or even Michigan this season — but the Terps are supposed to beat all of the other teams. The Terps are already bowl-eligible with a 6-5 record going into this game against Rutgers. This game is the final one of the regular season in the 12-game schedule. Depending on what Maryland does today could determine a bowl game for them. A 7-5 record looks much better than going 6-6, agree? Both Maryland and Rutgers enter this game with identical records.
The Maryland Terrapins were not expected to be beat Ohio State or Penn State or even Michigan today — and with the win last week against Nebraska, the Terps are already bowl-eligible with a 6-4 record today. So this week against the No. 2 ranked team in the country, the Terps hope for a miraculous upset.
